Golf Performance Osteopathy

If you’re a passionate golfer living in or around Cranbourne West, you’re spoilt for choice with incredible local courses—from Ranfurlie and Settlers Run to Sandhurst, Cranbourne Golf Club, and down the Peninsula to Moonah Links and The Dunes. But no matter where you tee off, one thing is universal: your swing is only as good as your body’s ability to move well.

Osteopathy for golfers

Golf places repeated demand on the body, especially through the spine, hips, shoulders and elbows. Whether you play socially or competitively, movement restrictions can affect comfort, consistency and performance. Many golfers seek treatment for lower back pain after golf, golf swing stiffness, or pain when golfing, particularly after longer rounds or increased playing frequency.

At Cranbourne Osteopathy, we work with golfers to assess movement patterns that may be contributing to discomfort, reduced mobility or recurring injuries. Areas like reduced rotation, hip tightness golf, and limited thoracic movement can influence your swing mechanics and may contribute to overloading other parts of the body.

Common golf concerns we see

Golfers commonly present with issues such as shoulder pain golf, golfer’s elbow, neck stiffness, lower back tightness and hip restrictions. These symptoms may build gradually over time or appear after a round, range session or change in training load. Repetitive swing mechanics, reduced mobility and previous injuries can all play a role.

We assess how your body moves through positions important for golf, including spinal rotation, hip movement, shoulder range and stability. This can help identify factors contributing to discomfort and support a plan for golf injury rehab and return to play.

Golf-focused assessment and treatment

At Cranbourne Osteopathy we can improve your golf swing, performance and comfort with our Golf Performance and Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Screen appointments at Cranbourne Osteopathy.

Our golf assessments look at your symptoms, movement patterns and the physical demands of your game to identify restrictions that may be affecting your swing or contributing to discomfort. Whether you are experiencing lower back pain after golf, reduced rotation, hip tightness golf, or ongoing pain when golfing, treatment is tailored to your goals, whether that’s reducing pain, improving mobility or helping you return to playing more comfortably.

Improving movement can play a big role in both performance and injury prevention on the course. Restrictions through the hips, upper back and shoulders can contribute to golf swing stiffness, reduced consistency and loss of power. Through assessment and treatment, we work to improve golf mobility, support recovery and address movement limitations that may be affecting your game.

For golfers wanting to move more freely through their swing, we assess areas that may influence power generation and rotation to help improve swing distance mobility, particularly through the hips, trunk and shoulders. Addressing stiffness and movement restrictions can support a more efficient swing and reduce strain on the body over time.

What is a TPI Screen?

The TPI Screen is a powerful assessment tool developed by the Titleist Performance Institute. This screen helps uncover what physical limitations may be holding your swing back, whether it’s restricted hip rotation, poor thoracic mobility, or stability issues.

A TPI screen appointment will allow our TPI Certified osteopath Adam to assess how your body moves in relation to your golf swing, identifying physical limitations that may be affecting power, accuracy, consistency and injury risk. From there, we’ll create a tailored treatment plan to help you improve your performance, reduce pain and play longer with less risk of injury.

Whether you’re a competitive player or a casual golfer, our tailored golf assessments and treatment plans will help you move better, swing better and play your best golf.

Who will conduct my TPI screen?

Your TPI screen will be carried out by Adam Cansdale, our TPI-certified osteopath. Adam is both a passionate golfer and an experienced osteopath, excited to combine these skills to support your golf performance.

While Adam will complete your TPI screening, you’re welcome to continue your treatment and rehab with your preferred osteopath on our team, whether that is Adam or not. In this case, Adam will ensure your screening results and treatment plan are communicated with your osteopath and will advise when your rescreening is due.

Should I get my TPI screen or golf lessons first?

Ideally, you should have your TPI screen first. This allows us to identify and address any physical limitations that could affect your swing, so you can get the most out of your golf lessons.

Additionally, if we find a limitation that can’t be fully resolved, then we can inform your golf professional ahead of your lessons, so they can tailor your swing and coaching accordingly.

Do I need to be injured to book a screening?

Not at all. While many golfers come to Adam for help with pain or injury, this service is equally beneficial for players looking to enhance performance, prevent injuries, or simply understand their body better in relation to the golf swing.

Will I get exercises or just an assessment?

Yes, you'll receive a personalised exercise program tailored to the findings of your screening. This plan will target mobility, strength, and control in golf-specific movement patterns. Ongoing support and progress tracking are also available.

What should I wear for my appointments?

Wear something comfortable that allows you to move freely. Sportswear or golf attire is ideal. Avoid jeans or work pants; anything you wouldn’t play golf in could impact your movement and therefore results during the screen.
