What should I expect in a Pelvic Health Appointment?
You will receive an online form to fill out before your first appointment which will ask for basic details about your complaint as well as some contact information. Please complete this in the days before your appointment so your osteopath can prepare for your appointment.
During your initial consult your Osteopath will further discuss your complaint and ask more questions about your medical history. Once a thorough case history has been completed your osteopath will begin the examination process. This will include a postural, movement and functional assessment, as well as muscle strength testing and orthopaedic tests. As part of a pelvic health examination, an assessment of the vulva and vaginal structures may be required (with your consent); this is so your osteopath can assess for pelvic floor function and conditions such as prolapse or vaginismis. This may involve completely undressing from the waist down.
Treatment and management will typically consist of:
- Hands on therapy (external and/or internal techniques with consent)
- Tailored exercise prescription
- Management strategies and advice; such as activity or daily routine modification
